-ly

in the manner of; every

Old English · -līce

Added to adjectives to make adverbs telling how something is done (quick + ly). On nouns of time it means every (daily, weekly); on nouns it can mean like (friendly).

Memory trick

-ly is a tail: it hangs on a word and tells you HOW the action happens.
