-ity

state or quality of

Latin · -itas, -itatis

Added to adjectives, often of Latin origin, to make nouns: equal becomes equality, able becomes ability. The spelling of the base may change (pure to purity, curious to curiosity).

Memory trick

-ity is a city of qualities: every adjective can move in and become a noun.
